This is the first case reported in the city since April 3.

The infected man is an 89-year-old man who lives in Dongxihu District, northwest of Wuhan, according to local authorities. The level of epidemiological risk in this neighborhood rose from “small” to “medium”.

Wuhan had been considered a “small” risk zone since the end of the quarantine on April 8, and activities began to gradually resume.

Students in their senior year of high school returned to classes on Wednesday, all wearing masks and abiding by strict health measures, after four months of forced vacation due to the virus.

In addition to the case in Wuhan, China on Sunday registered 13 new Covid-19 infections in its territory. It is the first time since May 1 that the country has announced a double-digit increase in the number of contaminations in 24 hours.

Most of the new cases occurred in the northeast region of the country, where the city of Shulan was quarantined.

On Saturday, China admitted that Covid-19 revealed “loopholes” in its healthcare and infectious disease prevention systems when United States President Donald Trump criticized how Beijing handled the crisis.
