The murder of pregnant Flavia Godinho Mafra, 24, has been planned since at least June, according to police. The author of the crime, who was arrested this Friday (28) in the morning, she reportedly admitted in testimony that she planned the case to keep the child after she had an abortion earlier this year.

The case of the city of Canelinha was detailed by the Civil and Military Police at a press conference this Friday afternoon. According to delegate Paulo Alexandre Freyesleben e Silva and Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Nunes, commander of the 12 PM battalion, the woman and her partner will be prosecuted for triple qualified homicide, concealment of a corpse and very serious bodily injuries, against the baby, who is found in custody. The prime minister initially registered the incident around 9 pm on Thursday (27), when he was summoned by the Canelinha hospital for an alleged case of mistreatment of a newborn. The boy had cuts on his body when the woman took him to the health unit. According to the authorities, the suspect in the crime said that he gave birth in the street, with the help of popular people, and then went to the hospital.
Knowing the case of the missing pregnant woman, the police continued to follow up on the case until this Friday morning, when the body of Flávia was found in an abandoned pottery in the Galera neighborhood. The police then approached the couple who had shown up with the baby the night before and clarified the crime.
Flávia’s body was located by her husband and mother. It is not yet possible to know if the baby was delivered with the pregnant woman alive or if she was already dead. The perpetrator admitted that he used a brick to kill his friend after luring her to the scene for a surprise baby shower.
The arrested woman told police she had a pregnancy in October last year and, in January, lost the child. She did not tell anyone about the abortion and, in mid-June, decided that she would commit the crime because she was with another child. He would have chosen Flavia for being friends from school and having her pregnancy in a similar period. On Thursday afternoon she even sent messages to a health worker in Canelinha talking about the alleged birth.

According to the police, the woman reported that her partner was unaware of the case and did not participate in the crime. However, he was also detained and his involvement must be investigated.
“From what we know, it seems plausible that he was aware of the situation,” said the deputy.
The woman and her partner will be detained in the Tijucas penitentiary unit. The baby will be accompanied by the Council of Guardians.
