RIO – In the middle of his impeachment process in Rio, outgoing Governor Wilson Witzel was baptized in an evangelical church on the night of last Sunday 29, in the North Zone of the capital. The information was provided by the newspaper “O Dia”, and confirmed by O GLOBO. Dressed in a black shirt, he was bathed in a pool at the Igreja Vida Nova, in Inhaúma, located at the foot of Morro do Alemão. The baptism took place the day before Witzel presented his defense before the mixed court that will give the last word on the loss of mandate of the former judge.

Witzel’s wife, Helena, and one of the couple’s daughters were also baptized this Sunday. This Tuesday, the outgoing governor showed that he is really immersed in the new religion (he declared himself a Catholic during the campaign and his time at the head of the state administration): he even used a verse from the Bible to explain the political moment he is living. Next Friday the 4th, at 11 am, the Rio Justice Court (TJ-RJ) will hold a new session on the process of the outgoing governor. On the occasion, the five deputies and the five judges who are part of the group will set the trial schedule, with the hearing of the witnesses and the presentation and examination of the evidence.

First to become an evangelical, even early in the impeachment process, Helena took on the mission of converting the whole family. He began to promote services at the Laranjeiras Palace, many of them with the presence of Pastor Abner Ferreira, as shown in photos on his social network. In the images, in addition to Ferreira, the name of Filipe Pereira, son of pastor Everaldo Pereira, president of the PSC, is marked. Father and son were arrested in August, in Operation Tris In Idem, which also led to the dismissal of Witzel for accusations of corruption in the health area.
Witzel defends himself against accusations of irregularities in the hiring of the Social Organization (OS) Iabas for the construction of field hospitals and the requalification of Unir Saúde, signed by him in March, against the technical opinions. The document requests that 13 witnesses be heard, among them the former Secretary of State for Health Edmar Santos and the businessman Mário Peixoto, designated by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) as a hidden partner of the OS.
