In an interview with the program Direto ao Ponto, from Rádio Jovem Pan, on Monday night (05), outgoing Governor Wilson Witzel criticized the performance of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in the investigations that led to his dismissal. He criticized the election of Deputy Prosecutor Lindôra Araújo by Attorney General Augusto Aras as responsible for the investigations against the governors.
Witzel criticized the election of President Jair Bolsonaro de Aras off the MPF triple list. According to Witzel, the action of the deputy attorney, chosen by Aras, did not respect the right to defense and generated a narrative that led to him being previously convicted and dismissed by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) under pressure from public opinion, which would have influenced the approval of the impeachment by the Legislative Assembly of Rio (Alerj).

– The prosecutor herself may have political preferences and may harm, with the speed of the investigations, creating versions that will not correspond to reality – he said.
Attacks on Edmar
The former judge also criticized the use of award-winning statements, such as that of his former Secretary of Health Edmar Santos, one of the bases for investigating the deviations of the Rio government.
– Edmar’s only way out was to deliver a trophy. What was the trophy? The governor – he said.
However, when asked about the criteria used to appoint Edmar, he praised the former secretary’s work until the wrongdoing was discovered.

– He was taking care of me very well. As a professional, during Covid, all the measures taken were agreed. The mistake was in the field hospital, which was a disaster. If we analyze it in the context of Covid, we had a satisfactory action – he said.
Trust the mixed court
Witzel went on to say that state deputies would have been silent about monitoring state spending during the pandemic. But, contrary to the aggressive tone adopted in the speech delivered in Alerj in the session that approved the impeachment, the former judge avoided attacking the parliamentarians and praised the members of the group, made up of five judges and five deputies. He cited the rapporteur of the case in the mixed court, Mr. Waldeck Carneiro (PT).
– In the mixed court, the deputies’ own statement moved me. The rapporteur, Mr. Waldck Carneiro, who is from the PT, gave a statement saying that he will render a fair trial, he said.
The outgoing governor said he trusts that the court will reject the complaint, and justified the decision to requalify the Social Organization (OS) Unir, signed by him in March and one of the central points of the accusation complaint. According to him, a report from the State Comptroller General’s Office identified problems in all state SOs.
– I will not create a jurisprudence to disqualify all SOs, because this will lead to a catastrophic situation – he justified.
The 15-day deadline to present Witzel’s defense to the mixed court begins Tuesday. After this period, the rapporteur of the process has 10 more days to decide whether or not the impeachment will continue, which will be voted on by the members of the court.
