The driver of the application Diego Soares Sampaio was shot dead in Niterói (RJ) during an argument at a gas station on Tuesday (17). According to the investigations, the perpetrator of the shots was the military police officer Giovani Peçanha de Athaíde, who was off duty. Information is from G1.
After the incident, he was heard by the Civil and Military Police and later released. Diego was rescued, but could not resist his injuries. Hellen Cristina Nascimento, wife of the victim, reported that the discussion began between the PM and an employee of the gas station.
According to the woman, she and her husband were in line to get gas and complained about the delay, starting a new discussion. Footage from the gas station’s security camera recorded the moment the couple got out of the car and Diego advanced on Giovani, who fired. Diego is shot twice in the abdomen and falls to the ground.
In testimony, the prime minister affirmed that Diego got out of the car with the intention of attacking him and that he fired to contain the situation.
The case is being investigated by the Homicide Police in Niterói, São Gonçalo and Itaboraí. According to the police, witnesses in the case will be heard. To the G1, the PM also reported that it has instituted an internal procedure to investigate the circumstances of the case.
