Five hundred doses of the covid-19 vaccine had to be discarded because they were not properly refrigerated in Wisconsin, United States. According to the Aurora Medical Center hospital chain, the immunizers were apparently deliberately spoiled by an employee.

On Saturday (12/26), the hospital had revealed that a Grafton facility employee accidentally left the doses at room temperature overnight. However, on Wednesday (12/30), Aurora published a note stating that the official involved “acknowledged that the vaccines were intentionally removed from the refrigerator.”

The statement also says the employee was fired and the matter was turned over to authorities for further investigation. The statement does not mention the possible motive for this action, and health system executives did not respond at the time to the messages sent to them seeking more information.

“We continue to believe that vaccination is our way out of the pandemic. We are beyond frustrated that this individual’s behavior has delayed the vaccination of more than 500 people,” the statement said. Aurora Medical Center declined to provide additional information, but said it would release more details Thursday.
