The Government of São Paulo announced, late in the morning of this Friday (11), an extraordinary update of the São Paulo Plan with the Ribeirão Preto region in the yellow phase. France and the region also advance to the yellow quarantine
The phase change comes after a lot of political pressure. From the degradation of the region to the orange phase, on September 4, the Ribeirão Preto City Council determined that the population should follow the rules of the yellow phase.
Also on Friday (4), the Municipal Secretary of Health asked the State to review the decision. On Tuesday (8), the Contingency Committee, which deals with the São Paulo Plan, reported that it would keep Ribeirão in orange until at least September 18
The mayor of Ribeirão Preto, Duarte Nogueira (PSDB), went to São Paulo last Wednesday (9) and asked for another review. In the opinion of the mayor and the Municipal Health Secretariat, the numbers of the covid-19 pandemic in Ribeirão Preto indicated the permanence in the yellow phase (see the video of the mayor of Ribeirão) in the video below.
And this Friday an extraordinary reclassification was made, putting Ribeirão Preto back in the yellow phase. More details of the update of the São Paulo Plan will be shown, this Friday, at a press conference at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, headquarters of the Government of São Paulo.
