The state has faced a crisis in the electricity supply since last week. Municipalities in the region were completely without power after a fire hit the state’s main substation. On Saturday, the neighborhoods of two cities had electricity again.

“The plenary session of the TRE-AP, in an administrative session convened as an emergency on this date, decided to request the TSE to postpone the elections in the municipality of Macapá, until the regular restoration of electricity, which normally proceeds in the other municipalities of the state, since in these the security situation of the voter can be kept under control, with the security apparatus currently available, ”says the TRE official.

The court also argued that “part of the population, which suffers from a shortage of water and electricity, is being encouraged to burn tires on public roads, as well as to deprive public property.”

In this case, the National Congress, at the provocation of the TSE instructed in a demonstration by the national health authority, and after consulting the opinion of a congressional commission, may issue a legislative decree with new dates for the election, provided that do not exceed December 27, 2020.

The amendment does not provide for the postponement due to problems such as lack of electricity.
