The merchants of Santa Cruz Shopping, together with the merchants of Rua São Sebastião, hold a demonstration in the central streets of Juiz de Fora, on Monday morning (28), against the closure of commercial establishments after more restrictive measures to face Covid -19. The act, which began around 11 in the morning, even partially closed Getúlio Vargas Avenue and moved pedestrian streets, such as Halfeld and Marechal Deodoro. Some merchants from these areas joined the movement, which is accompanied by the Military Police. Around noon the group arrived at the Juiz de Fora City Hall building, where they asked to speak with Mayor Antônio Almas (PSDB). The expectation is that the representatives will be received this Monday by the CEO and the head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture (Sedeta), Jackson Fernandes Moreira Júnior, and the Ministry of Health, Rodrigo Almeida.

Last Friday (25), the city regressed to the red wave of Conscious Mines, so that only services considered essential can operate, such as supermarkets, pharmacies, lotteries, banks, among others. In accordance with the resolution published by the PJF, the activities in which face-to-face assistance is carried out to the public, in commercial establishments and service providers, such as shopping centers, galleries and similar establishments are suspended.

According to the marketing coordinator of Santa Cruz Shopping, Isabela Porfírio, the movement began among the shopkeepers of the shopping center who, initially, were called to meet in their establishments this morning to demonstrate for the “right to work.” “We are aware that we are in a pandemic, but we understand that all work is essential,” he says.

As Isabela highlights, not only Santa Cruz Shopping, but all stores have followed the Covid-19 prevention protocols in the city. “As much as the stores are closed, the streets are still full. For the trade to open, we are following all the rules: nobody enters the Santa Cruz Shopping without measuring the temperature, without alcohol gel, without a mask. It’s a safe place. “Not only in Santa Cruz Shopping, but in all stores. We are worried because the bills are coming in and we have nowhere to get money ”.

According to the shopping center’s marketing coordinator, the month of December did not meet sales expectations, which brings concern to the retail sector about the suspension of activities again. “The demonstration is peaceful, we just want to exercise the right to work and see if the City takes sides. It’s not fair for merchants to pay the bill for the pandemic. We know there are other deeper problems. “

After walking through the central streets, the protesters went to the headquarters of the Juiz de Fora City Council. A group of merchants must meet with Mayor Antônio Almas (PSDB) to present the issues that involve the sector and demand a review of the measures.
