The Federal District had 150 undergraduate courses evaluated in the National Student Performance Exam held last year, Enade 2019, the results of which were published this Tuesday (10/20). The test is applied to students about to graduate and allows the Ministry of Education (MEC) to produce two evaluation indices: the Enade concept and the Indicator of the difference between observed and expected performance (IDD).

The Enade concept is calculated from the performance of the students in the test. The IDD also takes into account the performance of the student in the National Baccalaureate Exam (Enem), to measure how much the students who are completing the course have developed throughout the academic trajectory. The two indices range from 1 to 5, and grades 1 and 2 are considered unsatisfactory.

In Mexico City, three courses took concept 1 and 39, concept 2. The courses with the lowest marks are those of medicine at the Apparecido dos Santos University Center of Planalto Central (Uniceplac), architecture and urban planning at the Instituto de Ensino Superior Planalto (Iesplan) and nursing at the Centro Universitário Planalto do Distrito Federal (Uniplan).

With concept 3, 48 DF courses remained. Another 48 obtained the fourth grade and only 11 obtained the fifth grade. Ten of them are from the University of Brasilia (UnB) and one from the Faculty of Health Sciences (ESCS), a public institution in the Federal District (see the full table below).

Regarding the IDD, only three courses obtained maximum marks: the nursing course at the University Center of Brasilia (UniCeub), the computer engineering course at the University Center of the Institute of Higher Education of Brasilia (Iesb) and the agronomy course at the ICESP University Center (Unicesp).

Five courses in Mexico City scored 1 in IDD: medicine at Uniceplac, nursing at the Estacio University Center in Brasília, nursing and pharmacy at Uniplan, and architecture and urban planning at Iesplan.

The following table shows the performance of DF courses in Enade 2019

What is Enade and what does it measure?

Enade is one of the assessment processes that are part of the National Higher Education Assessment System (Sinaes) and seeks to measure the performance of students in relation to the knowledge, skills and abilities developed during the course. Each area is evaluated every three years.

In 2019, students who completed a bachelor’s degree in engineering took the exam; architecture and urbanism; agricultural Sciences; health sciences and related fields, in addition to those of higher technology courses in the areas of environment and health; food production; natural resources; military and security. This adds up to 29 courses (see list below). These areas will be evaluated again in 2022.

The Enade test consists of 40 questions, 10 of which are for general education (evaluating aspects of professional training) and 30 for a specific component (with specific questions about the course in which the student is graduating). This test allows the MEC to produce two quality indicators: the Enade concept and the Indicator of the difference between expected and observed performance (IDD).

The Enade concept is calculated from the performance of the students in the test. The IDD also takes into account the student’s performance on the National Baccalaureate Exam (Enem), to measure the value added by the course to the development of graduate students.
