In the social networks an image circulates with false information that the Government of Alagoas is not supplying the drug Hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of people affected by the new coronavirus in the public network of the State.

In a note, the State Department of Health (Sesau) clarifies that the drug is available for patients with SUS and that its use was instituted by the Protocol for the Recommendation of Therapeutic Hospital Conduct for patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19.

Published in ordinance No. 3,264, of April 14, 2020, the document considers the use of the drugs Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine, in addition to other relevant points for the treatment of the disease within the scope of the SUS, but it is the doctor’s decision whether or not to adopt this treatment.

According to Sesau, the measure is based on scientific evidence that points to a favorable impact on the evolution of the disease when these compounds are used. “However, the State Government expressly reinforces that it is at the discretion of the attending physicians to use or not the aforementioned medication, the regulatory ordinance, but the doctor decides the use. In addition, it should be borne in mind that, as is known, there is still no specific treatment for Covid-19, ”the note also mentions.

Regarding the application of medications, Sesau reports that, until last Thursday (30), the medications were distributed for 278 treatments. The total amount available in the state is divided into 4,760 chloroquine tablets, the use of which serves up to 238 treatments, and 27,414 hydroxychloroquine tablets, which can serve up to 4,569 treatments.
