RIO – The interim governor of Rio, Claudio Castro, met at the City Palace with Mayor Eduardo Paes. They discussed strategies to deal with the pandemic and preparations for the vaccination campaign. Paes and Castro said that Rio will follow a national vaccination plan, which will be announced this Monday the 4th by the Ministry of Health. The municipal secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz, said that the vaccination in the capital will start with 2.6 million. Of the priorities in the capital, explained the secretary, 872,571 refer to people over 75 years of age, health workers, the elderly who live in shelters and quilombola communities. In the entire state of Rio de Janeiro, the priority groups to be vaccinated in the 92 municipalities (including the capital) reach 5,454,912 people.

– We have already ordered 50 million syringes at R $ 0.17 per unit. Of these, 8 million have already arrived and we are about to receive another 8 million – said the Secretary of State Health, Carlos Alberto Chaves.

Application to prioritize actions

At the meeting, the municipal health secretary announced other measures that should be detailed in the coming days. The City of Rio launches an application for the population to report, by self-declaration, if they had Covid and what the symptoms were. The objective is to reduce underreporting and facilitate regionalized actions to combat the pandemic.

Soranz explained that the proposal is to regionalize the actions based on data on the disease in the 33 Administrative Regions of the city. Areas that have medium to very high scores for Covid will be selected for specific actions. These reports are expected to be released weekly, probably on Fridays.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State Health, Carlos Alberto Chaves, the municipal secretaries Pedro Paulo (Finance), Renan Ferreirinha (Education), Laura Carneiro (Social Assistance) and Chicão Bulhões (Economic Development) and the superintendent of the Ministry of Health , George Clivério. .

Paes said that the City Council and the State Government will work in an integrated way and will make the population aware of the pandemic. Regarding the vaccination plan, he informed that they will follow the national vaccination plan, which must be announced by the Ministry of Health, this Monday. But he warned:

Claudio Castro reinforced the support of the population.
