RIO – The scientific committees of Rio and Niterói recommended the total closure of all non-essential activities in the two cities to contain the new coronavirus pandemic, reported the RJTV newscast. These recommendations must be followed. This Monday morning, the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, and of Niterói, Axel Grael, met with experts to jointly define new restrictive measures against Covid-19, which will be announced this afternoon. In a social network, Paes published a photo of the meeting and wrote: “Meeting of the scientific committees of Rio and Niterói at that time with the presence of Mayor Axel Grael.

Paes: ‘He (governor) arrived with a ready package, practically preventing us from having a different vision’

Under the direction of the scientific committee, the following should be closed: non-essential stores, shopping centers, bars, coffee shops and restaurants (they can only work in the drive thru or delivery program), nightclubs, dance clubs, museums, galleries, libraries, gyms, hair salons, clubs, newsstands, and amusement parks. Also according to the committee, they should remain open: supermarkets, pharmacies, transportation, wholesale trade, pet stores, building materials stores, car rentals, funeral services and medical services. The information is from TV Globo.

In an interview with GLOBO, Paes said he was frustrated after meeting with acting governor Cláudio Castro on Sunday (21). The state ordered a 10-day weekend to take place, and there was no consensus on what should open or close in the city.

– The governor agreed with me and with the mayor of Niterói that we would seek a consensus (on restriction measures) and only then would we bring a single proposal to society. That’s not what he did, ”he said.

Holidays:The state of Rio determines a ten-day holiday and new measures against Covid-19

A press conference between the two mayors was rescheduled for 5pm. Now the decisions made by both will be announced at the Oscar Niemeyer Popular Theater, in Niterói.

Since the beginning of the mandate, Paes has not ruled out imposing stricter isolation measures in case of worsening of the pandemic in the capital, but argues that it is the specialists who determine this need.

– From the beginning I said that the emergency shutdown or increasing restrictions is only done if necessary. If it depended on certain opinions, we would have the beaches closed and the river closed since January. Science guides me – he emphasized.

Rules proposed by the State

According to “GloboNews”, the measures adopted by the state government determine the closure of public and private schools during the ten days of the holiday, as well as beaches, parks and clubs. The curfew, which prevents people from staying in public spaces, is maintained from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., and the sale of alcoholic beverages to people standing at any time is prohibited.

As for bars and restaurants, customers can enter until 9:00 p.m., open until 11:00 p.m., with a maximum capacity of 50% and permission for delivery, drive-thru and home order picking. Up to four people can be seated per table. Hotels will not be able to open their leisure areas, except gyms and eating areas.

The stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and services from 12 a.m. to 8 p.m. Shopping centers are open at 40% of their capacity, from noon to 8 pm, and industries follow the rules of public holidays normally. The fairs are at the discretion of the municipalities themselves.

The transports operate from 5:00 am to midnight from Monday to Saturday and, on Sundays, from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, with supervision of the use of a mask and offer of alcohol gel in the train and metro stations. However, the rental of intercity and interstate buses is prohibited, except for the transport of workers.

In case of non-compliance, a fine must be applied, but the amount has not yet been announced.
