The red phase only authorizes the operation of the health, transportation, press, establishments such as bakeries, markets and pharmacies, as well as schools and religious activities, which were included in the list of essential services through state decrees.

Parks, gyms, bars, museums and cinemas, for example, are expected to remain closed.

  • Supply chain and logistics, agricultural production and agribusiness, transporters, warehouses, gas stations and building materials stores.
  • Car rental companies, vehicle workshops, mass public transport, taxis, transport applications, delivery services and parking.
  • Public and private security services
  • Construction and industry
  • Media, journalism, radio broadcasting and sound and image companies
  • Other services: churches and religious establishments, laundries, cleaning services, hotels, maintenance and cleaning services, banking services (including lotteries), call center services, technical assistance and kiosks.

This week, the state of São Paulo registered the highest number of deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours since the start of the pandemic, with 468 new deaths, according to data from the State Department of Health. With the new records, the state reached 60,014 deaths from the disease. There were also a record number of hospitalized for the disease, with 18,000 bedridden patients in the state.

At least 19 state hospitals have 100% occupancy in ICUs targeting Covid-19.

Across the country, states have suffered a collapse in the healthcare system and there are cities with 100% occupied ICU beds.

On Friday (5), the Secretary of Health of São Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn, announced a “war operation” to receive patients with Covid-19 that includes the call for volunteer health professionals. A new field hospital will also be erected, the destination location of which will be detailed next Monday (8).
