After witnessing the increase in the number of cases, deaths and contagion of the new coronavirus in Curitiba, the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS) decided to restrict the operation of some activities considered non-essential in the city. The yellow flag is left behind and the city will once again be under the restrictions imposed by the orange flag from Monday (7).

Curitiba had returned to the yellow flag on August 18, after being stricter restrictions since June 13, that is, just over two months.
This Friday, SMS confirmed 12 more deaths, reaching a total of 1,051 deaths since the start of the pandemic. After confirming 495 more cases, the city of Curitiba has already had a total of 34,812 contaminated. Most worrying, according to the secretary Marcia huçulak, was the increase in the number of active cases. In just one week, 700 more cases were registered, reaching 4,576.
The secretary even cried when speaking about the removal of the flag and highlighted the crowds in parks and bars in recent days as one of the factors that may have triggered the new record. “I do not know if we were not assertive when communicating the yellow flag. People could have understood that everything was clarified,” he said.
The flag change should extend, at least for now, the return of elective surgeries (those that are not urgent). “It was a bucket of cold water. There was euphoria last week. We had a plan to resume elective surgery, but unfortunately the staff remains, our UPA [Unidades de Pronto Atendimento] they continue to receive critically ill patients, ”he said.
The decree on restrictive measures has not yet been published, which should happen in the next few hours. The changes will take effect next Monday.
