The little Cedar Abaet, in the Central Region of Minas, lost the position of the only Brazilian city free of the new coronavrus. The COVID-19 panel of the Ministry of Health of Minas Gerais (SES-MG) indicated two cases of the disease in the municipality this Sunday (13). The information was also confirmed to State of Minas By telephone through the portfolio press office.

Until Friday (11), the city was still included in the epidemiological report SES-MG without registration of the infection. The official gazette is not published on Sundays, but the COVID-19 panel, a state system fed daily by the municipalities of Minas Gerais, began charging two infected patients in the town tonight.
According to the report, health authorities are controlling one of the pollutants. The other is already recovered.

The last IBGE census counted 1,157 inhabitants in Cedro do Abaet. The report was on the ground on November 13 and noted that the town has only one bank, a lottery, a post office, two supermarkets and a small market.

There are no public or private hospitals. The entire service network is made up of a polyclinic and a Basic Health Unit (UBS). The most serious patients are referred to Abaet, located 23 kilometers from the city, or the mining capital.

On the occasion of the visit, the municipal secretary of Sade, Cssia Maria dos Santos, highlighted the measures taken by the executive to block the arrival of the virus. Among them, the installation of a sanitary barrier at the entrance of the municipality and the distribution of hygiene kits.

He also mentioned the hiring of specialists to reinforce care in health units, thus avoiding the displacement of residents for consultations and other daily procedures.

For the leader, however, the absence of cases in the region is even explained by a supernatural factor. “God,” read a report at the time. Many other Cedrenses trusted in the “divine hand,” which makes sense in a community that, according to IBGE, is predominantly Catholic. More than 80% of the population declared in the last census to profess the religion of Pope Francis.
