Piauí Governor Wellington Dias (PT) announced earlier this Wednesday (13), in an interview with TV Clube, new more rigid measures to combat the coronavirus.

Between them, the ‘dry law’ from this Friday (15), at 0h, which prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages throughout the state. Marketing is restricted until Sunday (17).

In addition to the “dry law,” Wellington Dias cited other, more stringent measures that begin to apply as of Friday, May 15 and are valid until Sunday, May 17.

  • Suspension of intercity transport.
  • New service station opening hours (not yet announced)
  • Tire repair services with hygiene and operating standards.
  • Closed banks and lotteries
  • Civil construction works, except emergencies, stops
  • Exchange barriers with quarantine rule. Anyone who comes from another state to Piauí, must remain isolated, monitored by health agencies and perform tests for Covid-19.

Wellington explained that Piauí will not have, “at that moment”, the closure, the total blockade of the movement of people, a more rigid measure than social isolation. “We want an opportunity for an intermediate alternative, before a measure like this, for everything. We are talking to the mayors, ”explained Dias.

The new measures announced Wednesday, according to the governor, should halt the growth of Covid-19 in the state. There are more than 1,600 confirmed cases, with an estimated 17,000 infected, according to a sample survey, and 57 deaths.

“The objective is that we are cultivating coronaviruses, we had an isolation that fell 10 points (percentage), there are 180 thousand more people in transit. We want to reduce, have 200,000 fewer people in transit and raise Piauí to more than 50% of social isolation, “Wellington said, detailing the new measures.

“This is to have less spread of the coronavirus, fewer sick people who demand hospitals. This week we reached 47% of our occupied capacity in the ICU, the yellow light went on. We don’t want to collapse, “he continued.

Wellington explained that selling drinks in Piauí should reduce the number of accidents that have filled hospital ICUs. “Bars that sell (alcoholic beverages), people who come en masse, who were passing drunk, obstructing the health ICUs. In that case, it will be treated as a crime. We will restrict that,” argued the governor, on the reasons for enacting the law. drought in the period

Suspended intercity transport

In addition, Wellington also announced the suspension of intercity transportation. Intercity transportation is also prohibited from Friday, May 15.

“On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays there will be no buses that leave any city in Piauí from one city to another, we are going to make this prohibition. Only ambulances, cargo transportation will be allowed, ”explained Wellington Dias.

Wellington said that on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays there will be a restriction on essential services. “Pharmacies, bakeries, supermarkets work. Gas stations we will restrict the hours. We are going to make hygiene rules. Other services stop: banks, lotteries and construction areas, except emergency work, “he said.

There is also a study on the possibility of rotation in some cities according to the registration plate. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, only dishes with a strange ending. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, only plates with the uniform end can circulate.

The decrees determine the social distance

To avoid contamination by the virus, social isolation and emergency measures were determined by decrees of the state government and the municipalities, such as in the capital of Piauí, so that the population stays at home and avoids going out onto the streets as much as may be possible.

Police officers approach buses and private vehicles at state borders. Schools, universities and most commerce, as well as public services, have suspended their activities. The decrees stipulate that those who break the rules can be penalized with a fine or even imprisonment.
