Not all people included in the priority phase of immunization against Covid-19 will be able to get vaccinated at the beginning. This is because the first batch of CoronaVac, of six million doses, which began to be distributed on Monday (18), will be enough to vaccinate only 0.5% of the elderly and 34% of the health professionals of the country.

This is what the spreadsheet of the Ministry of Health indicates with the division of immunizers by state and priority group, as shown in the Status. There is no scheduled date for more doses.

With the limited number of doses available, the ministry will prioritize those most at risk. This is the case of the elderly who live in long-term care centers, some 156.8 thousand people, 0.5% of the almost 29 million older Brazilians, according to an estimate by the ministry itself.

As for health professionals (2.2 million), front-line workers to combat Covid-19 will be prioritized in hospitals and health posts. Employees of long-term care institutions for the elderly and public officials who will be vaccinated will also be immunized.

It should be remembered that 431.9 thousand indigenous people and 6.4 thousand people with disabilities will be vaccinated with the initial batch of CoronaVac in long-term institutions.

According to the president of the National Council of Health Secretaries, Carlos Lula, the first batch must be exhausted in a week and there is no guarantee that, at the end of the six million doses, the country will have already received a new shipment.

New schedule

Although vaccination against Covid-19 has already begun in the state of São Paulo for health professionals and indigenous people, people over 75 years of age – who would receive doses from February 8 – will only be immunized as of March 23 . . The new schedule is an “estimate”, according to the São Paulo Municipal Secretary of Health, Edson Aparecido, and depends on receiving new doses.

The calendar established by the State Government was modified after the sale of all doses of CoronaVac to the Ministry of Health, as part of the National Immunization Plan (PNI). Limited to the initial six million doses produced by the Butantan Institute, the ministry decided to immunize only people over the age of 60 living in long-term care facilities.

In an interview with TV Globo, Aparecido asked that the elderly who do not live in nursing homes do not seek vaccination posts. “We are going to distribute (vaccines) to public, municipal and state, and private networks. In this first moment, with this amount, we will prioritize this universe of health professionals, the elderly in institutions and the almost 1,800 indigenous people that we have in the municipality, ”said the secretary.

Approximately 4.8 million doses are in the final stage of production and await a new authorization from Anvisa for emergency use. However, production depends on the arrival of new inputs from China. “We are only waiting for the authorization of the Chinese government to be able to bring and, thus, begin the 2nd stage of production. But we depend on the raw material to be able to continue with this process ”, said the president of Butantan, Dimas Covas.

Online registration

According to the state government, 8,250 people have already been vaccinated against Covid-19 at 6 pm on Tuesday (19). More than 305 thousand doses of Coronavac were sent to 28 towns in the Greater São Paulo, Sorocaba, Baixada Santista and Vale do Paraíba regions. During this week, the 645 cities will receive their initial amounts.

On the other hand, the website “Vacina Já” created for pre-registration in the vaccination campaign, already has a million people attached. The page receives the pre-registration of people in a position to receive the vaccine to guarantee a faster service at the vaccination sites and avoid the formation of agglomerations.

The provision of information is optional and vaccination will also take place without it. It will only be necessary to complete the registration in the vaccination unit. Most healthcare professionals will receive the vaccine at their workplace.
