According to the city, Ribeirão Preto will continue in the yellow phase of the São Paulo Plan. “Ribeirão Preto remains in the yellow phase. There will be no City Council decree,” said Mayor Duarte Nogueira (PSDB), on Tuesday afternoon (8).
The executive director said that he would send an administrative appeal to the Secretary for Regional Development, Marco Vinholi, on Wednesday (9). The document will be delivered at a meeting scheduled for 11 am and, in addition to Nogueira, it must include other mayors in the region.
The city also submitted a preliminary court order to the TJ-SP (São Paulo Court of Justice) to review the decision. Nogueira argues that the state government has already modified the decree that instituted the São Paulo Plan to adjust the criteria according to the progress of the pandemic.
“If hospitalization is the most important element, and it is going backwards, that will be the metric that we are going to question,” Nogueira said in an interview with journalists. The city says that the coordinator of the Coronavirus Contingency Committee, José Medina, voted in favor of the municipality’s request.
“For reasons of science, coherence, logic, public health,” declared the president, who affirmed that the São Paulo Plan is not perfect and, according to him, could suffer adaptations.
