Public transport will be suspended throughout Espírito Santo between next Sunday (28) and April 4. The measure applies to all modes, including municipal, intercity and interstate buses. In addition to the railway system, which connects Cariacica with Belo Horizonte (MG).
The change was announced by Governor Renato Casagrande, in the statement made on Thursday afternoon (25), as another measure aimed at reducing the movement of people and the transmission of the new coronavirus in the State. According to him, the suspension will not affect cargo transportation.
The State will carry out a scheme for the transportation of health professionals who work in public hospitals, using part of the current Transcol fleet. Other essential services, such as private hospitals, markets and pharmacies, must be organized to transport the workers themselves.
At the head of the Secretary of State for Mobility and Infrastructure (Semobi), Secretary Fábio Damasceno explained to the Daily CBN that the suspension was necessary because, despite the quarantine imposed since last Thursday (18), there was a reduction of only 20% of passengers in the Transcol system.
