In the last 4 weeks, the state of São Paulo registered a 54% increase in the number of positive cases of Covid-19. The number of deaths from the disease increased 34% statewide.
With that, Governor João Doria (PSDB) affirmed that the Contingency Center, which meets on Tuesday (22), will be able to define new actions to contain the disease, further tightening the restrictive measures for the operation of commercial establishments.
According to leaf found last Thursday (17), the state indices are already at the level of the orange phase, the second most restrictive. Currently, the entire state is in the yellow phase, the middle of the five gradations.
Data from mobile phone companies showed that the isolation rate in the state on Saturday (19) was 40%. An index considered positive by the state government is above 50%.
According to data presented by the government on Monday (21), in the last epidemiological week there were 7,191 new cases, a number similar to that registered in June, July and August. Four weeks ago, the number of new cases was 4,666.
In total, 1,388,043 positive cases have been registered in São Paulo and 45,136 deaths from the disease since the start of the pandemic in February. The daily average of deaths in the state reached 151, compared to 113 people who died due to Covid-19.
“We have to be vigilant, the virus is approaching us all. We must respect the quarantine. We are all exhausted, but the pandemic is still in full swing, ”said Jean Gorinchteyn, Secretary of Health.
The main concern of Doria’s team is the increase in the number of cases and hospitalizations after the end of the year, when people must meet with family and friends.
Celebrations in commercial establishments, such as bars, restaurants, hotels and dance halls, are prohibited by the public calamity decree, the Sanitary Code and the yellow phase of the São Paulo Plan, according to the state government.
Doria also announced that it has started purchasing 100 million syringes and needles for the coronavirus vaccination, scheduled to begin on January 25.
The purchase will be made in 27 auctions, held between December 18 and 23, each one foresees the acquisition of 2 million units of 1 and 3 ml syringes and three types of needles.
“São Paulo is adding another 100 million syringes and needles to its stock for vaccination against Covid-19. We are expanding stocks to be sure and convinced that no input from the state will be lacking, ”said Doria.
According to the governor, this Thursday (24) supplies for the production of another 5.5 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine also arrive in São Paulo, for a total of 10.8 million doses on Brazilian soil.
