The incidence of Covid-19 again affects not only Fortaleza, but also the interior of Ceará. Of the five state health regions, four had an increase in confirmed cases, between October 25 and November 21 – epidemiological weeks 44 and 47: Fortaleza, with 2.8% more; North, with 197%; Cariri, with 146.6% me East Coast, with 69.2%. Only the Central Sertão had a drop of 22.7%. The data are from the Epidemiological Bulletin 54 of the Ministry of Health (Sesa), published on Friday (4).

In the Health Region (SRS) of Fortaleza, which includes the Capital and 43 more cities, 1,307 new cases were confirmed and 26 deaths in the last week – the number of deaths, incidentally, represents an increase of 2,500% compared to the previous week. In the Northern Region, there were 199 new cases and two deaths (50% reduction). In Cariri, 328 new cases and 15 deaths (50% increase). On the East Coast, 198 new infections and three deaths (25% reduction). And in the Central Sertão, 54 new cases and one death.

Fortress only had a 41.5% increase in the number of cases and a 43.5% increase in the number of deaths, between EW 44 and 47. Magda Almeida, Executive Secretary of Surveillance and Regulation of the Department of Health of Ceará (Sesa), explains that the growth in the number of deaths was, in fact, driven by the SRS of Fortaleza and the capital itself .

“This growth is due to the late confirmation of some deaths. The positivity of the tests continues to be high in the UPA, above 50%, but in general it has remained between 20% and 30% ”, he points out.

Considering the Decentralized Health Areas (ADS), which are 22 in Ceará, ten were discharged in the number of cases between October 25 and November 21 (EW 44 to 47): Fortaleza (41.5%), Maracanaú (3.1%), Baturité (50.9%), Itapipoca (17, 4%), Aracati (7.2%), Quixadá (64.6%), Limoeiro do Norte (27.4%), Acaraú (7.6%), Brejo Santo (5.4%) and Cascavel (12 ,3%) ).

Also according to the bulletin, the ADS of Fortaleza, Caucaia, Iguatu, Crato and Juazeiro do Norte presented increase in deaths in the same period. Maracanaú, Baturité and Icó maintained stability in the number of occurrences.

For the first time since the pandemic began, the municipality of Antonina do Norte, in the South Center of Ceará, registered death for Covid-19: There are 66 confirmed cases there, and one person died as a result of the disease.

The recommendation, Magda Almeida reinforces, is to maintain precautions. “These data show that it is necessary to avoid crowds, wear a mask and wear the respiratory tag. It is a moment in which we must protect ourselves and the most vulnerable ”, warns the secretary.
