Senator Major Olímpio (PSL-SP), 58, was diagnosed with Covid-19 and has been hospitalized since Tuesday (2) at the São Camilo Hospital, in São Paulo.
The hospital does not reveal his state of health, following the guidance of his family. Through social networks, however, the senator himself confirmed the hospitalization and said that it is progressing satisfactorily.
“I would like to thank everyone for the messages of love and prayers for my recovery. According to the doctor, my condition is progressing well despite the seriousness and I have faith that I will soon be back in combat! I am hospitalized due to Covid-19, but I have faith that I will recover soon. My solidarity with all Brazilians at this difficult time. Together we will win, “said the senator on social networks this Thursday (4).
Despite the hospitalization, Mayor Olímpio participated in this Wednesday (3) session of the Senate, through videoconference from his hospital bed.

Olímpio is one of the three senators of the Republic who hired the Covid-19 that week and is away from parliamentary activities in the Senate.
Besides him, the senator Alessandro Vieira (Cidadania-SE) and Lasier Martins (Pode-RS) also contracted the disease and are in recovery.
Since the start of the pandemic, two senators have died from the disease: José Maranhão (MDB-PB), 87, and Arolde de Oliveira (PSD-RJ).
Due to the advance of Covid-19 among senators and among Brazilians, the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (DEM-MG), announced that all plenary sessions in the house will only be remote again as of Monday (8).
