BRASÍLIA – Senator Telmário Mota (PROS-RR) said that journalist Romano dos Anjos, the victim of a kidnapping in Boa Vista and found alive on Tuesday, “must be the victim of his own words.” In recordings sent by WhatsApp, Telmário describes the professional press as a ‘bad character’, a ‘bandit’ and a ‘naughty liar’. He also claims that he would not regret his death, if it happened.

– As for his life, of course I want to, I ask God to save, but do I say ‘no, he’s a good person’? No, he is a bad character. For me, if the goat sucks, it can even die, I will not say ‘oh, poor thing, it died’. No. If it sucks, it sucks. It’s over – said the parliamentarian in one of the recordings.

According to the local press, Romano was kidnapped from his own home. Hours later he was found, wounded and with broken arms and legs, according to the Civil Police.

Telmário’s audios were initially published by Crusoé magazine and confirmed by GLOBO. Following the disclosure, the senator said he meant that even if the journalist died, “he would still say he sucks.” He reiterated all the statements.

– It’s not because he died that I’ll say he’s good, no. That’s what I said. I didn’t say ‘oh, it sucks, I could die’ – he explained to GLOBO.

In another recording, Telmário denounces that the journalist tried to associate him with investigations into deviations in public health in the state in recent days. Senator PROS is also being investigated in the operation in which Senator Chico Rodrigues (DEM-RR) was captured with money in his underwear. Telmário denies being involved with irregularities.

– All week I tried to induce myself to participate in a health robbery. Will I be a hypocrite? For me he is a bad character, a bad guy, he must be the victim of his own words. If in fact he was kidnapped, may God have mercy on him and save his life, but I’m not a hypocrite – he said.

In the audios, the parliamentarian also stated that the journalist should be compared to a “favela bandit” and that “no one has mercy” on a bandit.

– I don’t see anyone here showing pity like a bandit that they even kill. What is the difference that every day there is talk of lies, slander and defamations? The senator asked.

In another speech, Telmário complains about the “injustices” suffered by Romano dos Anjos by citing newspaper articles by the professional press. The senator argues that there is an investigation to certify the veracity of the kidnapping. He said the case “has many questions.”
