Sarto Nogueira (PDT) is elected mayor of Fortaleza. With 98% of the votes counted, Sarto counted 655,538 votes, equivalent to 51.69%, and is mathematically elected. Captain Wagner has 612,769 votes, equivalent to 48.31% of the valid votes.

Sarto formed a broad coalition in the first round of the 2020 elections and expanded the alliance in the second, after attracting defeated candidates. The elected mayor had as main supporters Cid and Ciro Gomes. Captain Wagner was the candidate supported by President Jair Bolsonaro in Fortaleza.
In an interview at the time of the vote, this Sunday (29), Sarto said that the priority of his mandate will be to work to alleviate the health and economic crises caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

“First, and I would say simultaneously, the issue of the health crisis and the economic crisis. We are going to work to recover the economy, especially in the periphery.”
As soon as the TSE confirmed Sarto’s victory, the governor of Ceará and the political ally of the elected mayor, Camilo Santana, congratulated the winner. “A victory for the defense of truth, respect, peace and the recognition of work and the enormous will to face the many challenges that lie ahead.”
Sarto Nogueira is 61 years old and is married to Natália Herculano. They raise three dogs, including the Pomeranian dog Lulu Marrion, who became a campaign pet and inspired memes on the internet.

Sarto Nogueira has been elected state deputy seven times since 1994. Before, in 1988, he was elected councilor in Fortaleza by the Christian Democratic Party (PDC), being re-elected in 1992. In the last elections, in 2018, he obtained 68,937 votes.
He is also a physician graduated from the Federal University of Ceará and current president of the Legislative Assembly of Ceará.
Like Roberto Cláudio eight years ago, Sarto was elected mayor of Fortaleza while assuming the position of president of the state legislature.

Sarto served the entire campaign with the largest coalition and had the most time in electoral propaganda on radio and television. In the first round, he focused the criticism mainly on Captain Wagner, who appeared in second place in the polls and with whom he played the second round.
She also criticized former mayor Luizianne Lins (PT), saying she had a poor evaluation when she was mayor. In the second round, Luizianne did not express his support for Sarto or Wagner, but the PT formed a coalition with the elected mayor.
In the second round, the defeated candidates either declared their support for Sarto or remained neutral. With new allies, Sarto expanded the support network.

The elected mayor assures that “continue and expand the policies of the last eight years, which have transformed the city, perfecting them as necessary, and proposing new and creative actions to advance further.”
Sarto promised to offer credit of up to R $ 3,000 to poor women, through the “Nossas Guerreiras” program; and promised a return to social income for women who need protection against domestic violence.
