Confirmed cases of workers working on the front line to combat the pandemic exceed 700 people in the capital of São Paulo
The number of health professionals who died with coronavirus in São Paulo reaches 13 workers. The balance was released by the city council on Saturday morning (25), which also updated the list of 3,106 retired employees, of which 713 are confirmed cases and 2,354 show flu symptoms.
São Paulo city officials paid tribute this Saturday to colleagues who died from Covid-19. The demonstration took place in front of the Tide Setúbal Hospital, in São Miguel Paulista, east of São Paulo. In addition to the tributes, the law also required a better work structure, such as the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the valorization of professionals against the pandemic.
Last Saturday, the professionals had already protested at the hospital door asking for more protection, with signs with the phrase “we want to live, we want PPE”, “enough roll, we want protection” and “we do not accept raincoats”. On the occasion, the president of the Union of Municipal Servants of São Paulo (Sindsep), Sergio Antiqueira, even addressed the employees.
“You are not forced to work without conditions. It will not stop responding, but it is seeking your safety. This hospital lacks PPE. A manager who leaves someone at risk, who forces a professional to work without security, is responsible for what may happen to you or your family members. Is this how the periphery is treated? There is no problem with having donated equipment, but according to what the health authorities require, the WHO, ”said Sergio.
