The most recently confirmed deaths are of three men and one woman. One of them was 60 years old and lived in Sombrio, in southern South Carolina. The death had occurred on April 30, but the result came only this Thursday. The other was 84 years old and was from Caçador, in the west of Santa Catarina and the third was 57 years old and lived in Indaial, in the Itajaí valley. The woman was 79 years old and lived in Blumenau, also in Vale. All four had comorbidities.
And, despite four new deaths, the state’s fatality rate fell to 1.91%, said Governor Carlos Moisés da Silva (PSL).
– We had great progress in Santa Catarina, because we managed to flatten our curve. We keep the case fatality rate low and the transmissibility rate is also low. We achieve this, with a series of restrictive impositions, but with the collaboration of all of Santa Catarina. We all have a lot of responsibility at the moment, he said.
In beds of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) 119 patients are hospitalized, between public and private networks. Of these, 65 use mechanical ventilation. Confirmed for Covid-19, there are 62 people and another 57 awaiting results, updated the Secretary of Health, André Motta Ribeiro. The occupation of ICUs reserved for people with coronavirus infection in the Unified Health System (SUS) is 17.1%. Since the start of the pandemic, 243 patients have been discharged from the ICU to hospital beds.
Outbreak and restrictions in western SC
The Santa Catarina government announced new measures for the western Santa Catarina regions, due to the high spread of Covid-19 in SC Midwest and Far West residents in recent days.
Commerce, for example, will be closed for 15 days in these regions, as well as non-essential public services, among other determinations that were agreed between the municipalities and the State, at a meeting this Thursday afternoon (7), and announced by the Secretary of Health, André Motta Ribeiro, during the live broadcast.
– With the arrival of the cold and other conditions that have been added, some regions are more compromised. The number of cases increased significantly in this part of the state (west). The guidelines have already been transmitted to regions with higher pollution. Some regions are beginning to suffer a little more now. We knew from the beginning that this pandemic would come in waves and now it is reaching these regions, he said.

Despite the fact that intensive care beds still meet the need, the government considers the number of people infected in western South Carolina to be “considerable”, leading to the most drastic restrictions in that region:
– You must keep the rules so as not to lose control. Some problems go back a bit, so that we can maintain the transmission speed of this virus – Ribeiro said.
