The old woman Nelcy Brizolla Machado, 83, was found dead and charred inside her home in Carazinho (RS), on Wednesday (18). According to investigations, the suspect in the crime is Marcelo Shalemberg, 28, whom the old woman helped since she was a child. The information is from Uol.
According to police, Shalemberg confessed to the crime and said he went to the old woman’s house to ask for money to buy drugs. Nelcy reportedly declined the request and then the man broke into her home and strangled the victim until she passed out and tied her up.
Soon after, he stole items from the house, set fire to a sofa in the living room, and ran away. Shalemberg was recognized by security camera footage and was arrested at the home of friends who were also allegedly drug users.
Charged with robbery, the man was taken to Carazinho State Prison and killed in the early afternoon. According to the authorities, the man shared a cell with other detainees, yet he was alone in it before the murder took place.
One of the prisoners confessed to the crime and claimed to have acted in self-defense. The police determine if the action is related to the theft.

They got into a physical fight and the prisoner managed to take the weapon and began to attack, ”explained police officer Geri Adriani Mendes to Uol. Shalemberg fell into the corner of the cell and the defendant said that he would not have realized that he had died.
Also according to the police, prison officials noticed Shalemberg’s absence during a prisoner conference and found him already dead.
