Rottweiler dog becomes therapist for healthcare professionals in hospital and goes viral

Loki has been a treat to weary healthcare professionals at the University of Maryland Medical Center, USA. USA, where he works as a therapy dog.

Kinotherapy (or pet therapy) is a method that generally co-therapists dogs in multiple patient therapy sessions, in various situations.

Scientifically based, it reduces stress, anxiety and heart problems, being widely used in children and the elderly.

As a “canine therapist,” Loki, a 2-year-old Rottweiler, has cared for exemplary doctors and nurses who work on the front lines in fighting Covid-19 and treating infected people.

Although the pandemic has forced hospitals to restrict therapy dogs for now, Loki’s guardian has found a creative way for her to continue attending.

With the help of the FaceTime application, kinotherapy is carried out by video call.

“I have never met such an empathetic dog. It’s a little weird. There were many circumstances in the hospital where she felt that a patient was very ill and needed a little affection and addressed him, without any guidance, “said Caroline Benzel, a medical student and Loki tutor from Good Morning America.

Caroline started an online campaign to donate hygiene and beauty products to the University of Maryland Medical Center, but the initiative was so successful that she expanded donations to hospitals across the United States, with Loki’s blessing. Of course

In a matter of days, more than 4,200 kits were received, with alcohol gel, lotions, shampoos and soaps. “The team was impressed by the generosity of the people,” said Benzel.

“Loki is a very dear dog. I am happy that she has inspired so many donations, ”he concluded.
