RIO – The state of Rio registered 13 deaths and 146 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to data released this Monday by the state government. In total, there are 18,278 victims and 261,860 infected by Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in March. On Mondays, the reported figures are usually well below the other days, because a large amount of data is retained in municipal departments on weekends.

This Monday’s update interrupts a sequence of ten days with an increase of over 15% in the moving average of deaths, a classification that indicates an increase in the spread of the disease. The moving average is now 80 deaths and 1,422 victims per day in Rio de Janeiro. There is still an increase in the average of deaths, of 6%, but this point points to a scenario of stability of the disease.

The 7-day moving average averages between the number of deaths for the day and the previous six. It is compared with the average of two weeks ago to indicate if there is an uptrend, stability or a downtrend. The calculation is a statistical resource to be able to see the trend of the data, drowning out the “noise” caused on weekends, when the notification of deaths is reduced due to the shortage of shift employees.

The data analysis was carried out from the survey of the press vehicle consortium formed by O GLOBO, Extra, G1, Folha de S.Paulo, UOL and O Estado de S. Paulo, which collects information from the health departments state.

Rules ignored again

If the images of the agglomeration on the sand of the city’s beaches attracted attention during the weekend, ignoring all the rules of isolation and prevention of Covid-19, this Monday, a working day, the scenario was repeated again. . On a day when the maximum recorded was 35.2 degrees, according to Alert Rio, at the Santa Cruz station, the GLOBO team recorded a large amount of movement and accumulation of umbrellas on Ipanema Beach. By decree, it is prohibited to stay on the sand of the beaches and the use of masks is still essential.

The municipal network has 88% of ICU beds occupied

This Monday, GLOBO said that, on Sunday, the capital reached 87% occupancy in ICU beds in the municipal network, and that the pressure for beds in the city of Rio de Janeiro is growing. A day later, the figure remains close. with an increase of 1%.

In the hospitals of the municipal health network, according to the latest update, released on Monday morning, there are 452 hospitalized patients, of which 221 are in the ICU – today the municipality has 251 specialized beds for more complex cases – , which indicates an occupancy of 88% for these vacancies.

The Fiocruz health doctor, Christovam Barcellos, who last Friday pointed out that the capital is in a “critical zone” in relation to the supply and occupation of beds for patients with coronavirus, blames the relaxation, both by the government and by society, as the main factors that contributed to this current scenario.

– This increase in the occupation of beds for Covid-19 in Rio is a consequence of several things that are happening. People are exposing themselves a lot now, even those who have been watched for months have now started exposing themselves directly or indirectly.

For him, there is the risk of a major new wave of the disease, and in this case, the current structure could end up not supporting the demand for beds.

– We see field hospitals (of State) be demobilized and this is very serious because there is the possibility of a new outbreak, and in that case, we will be out of hospital places. There has been great relaxation on the part of the population and the government for at least a month, added Barcellos.
