The Samambaia Federal District Jury Court sentenced Rosana Auri da Silva Cândido and Kacyla Priscyla Santiago Damasceno for the death and dismemberment of the 9-year-old child Rhuan Maycon da Silva Castro. The crime that occurred on May 31 of last year.
Rosana, the boy’s mother, was sentenced to 65 years and 8 months in prison, 8 months and 10 days in detention and 43 days of fine. His partner, Kacyla, was sentenced to 64 years and 10 months in prison, 8 months and 10 days in detention and 43 days of fine.
According to the Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories, the process was handled secretly to preserve the privacy of the victim.
During the trial, the defense of Rosana and Kacyla denied responsibility for the crime and demanded the acquittal of the accused. However, by majority, the Sentencing Council voted in favor of convicting those accused of triple qualified homicide, very serious bodily injury, torture, destruction and concealment of bodies, and procedural fraud.
Still according to the sentence, the two will remain in preventive detention. The defendant can appeal the decision.
Remember the case
The child Rhuan Maycon da Silva Castro died on May 31, 2019. The result of the cadaverous report of the victim revealed that the child was stabbed 12 times, once in the chest while he was sleeping.
According to the Civil Police, he was still startled and got up from the bed, kneeling next to him before receiving more blows.
The report also notes that Rhuan’s head was cut off while they still had vital signs. The Civil Police of the Federal District affirms that the mother dismembered the body while her companion lit the barbecue. Kacyla Priscyla even helped hold the boy during the stabbing.
After attempting to bake parts of the boy’s body, the two defendants decided to divide the limbs into two backpacks. One was thrown into a sewer. The couple was charged with doubly qualified homicide, very serious bodily injury – for cutting off Rhuan’s penis two years before the crime – torture, concealment of a corpse and procedural fraud – for trying to clean up the crime scene.
At the time of the complaint, Rosana and Kacyla Priscyla claimed that the crime was committed because the boy “wanted to become a girl.” Rhuan’s mother further claimed that it was allegedly the result of a rape committed by her ex-husband and that she therefore “hated her son.”
