On the morning of last Wednesday (11), a 14-year-old teenager died hours after being discharged from an Emergency Care Unit (UPA) located in the city of Cascavel, Paraná.

According to relatives, Cristian Rodrigues de Oliveira was ill during the night and, at around 2:50 am, he entered the health unit feeling a headache, fever and vomiting. The boy’s mother, Lourdes Rodrigues Oliveira, reported that, despite feeling bad, the son was released.

Lourdes found her son dead in the early afternoon. For her, Cristian could have survived if he had not been released in the situation he was in. The doctor who treated the young man was previously removed.

The Samu Oeste Intermunicipal Consortium (Consamu) stated that, after joining the Tancredo UPA, Cristian was medicated, subjected to examinations and continued overnight under the care of the team.

In a note, the Cascavel Municipal Health Secretariat reported that it will take all administrative and legal measures to investigate the professional’s conduct in the case.
