Starting at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, the more than 42,000 elderly people over 80 years of age who live in the Federal District begin to be vaccinated against covid-19. The announcement of the expansion of vaccination encourages the population, but, according to experts, it also raises concerns such as the possibility of crowding at vaccination points. Therefore, both the Department of Health (SES) and experts warn that there is no reason to despair and that there will be a vaccine for everyone. In addition, the government draws attention to possible scams and reinforces that there will be no programming, reservation or application of the immunizer by drive-thru.
According to the secretariat, the vaccine will be applied in 30 basic health units and in six places such as gyms and schools (See the complete list at the link: bit.ly/vaccinio DF). Also according to the folder, it is not necessary to make an appointment, the older person must only attend one of the units listed carrying a document in which the user’s Individual Taxpayer Registration (CPF) can be verified. In an interview with the Courier, the Secretary of Health of the Federal District, Osnei Okumoto, said that both CoronaVac, a Chinese vaccine produced by the Butantan Institute (SP), and Astrazeneca, a vaccine from Oxford, will be distributed to the elderly. “There will not be a single type of vaccine in the units. The Health Department is distributing the vaccines as requested by each unit, without worrying about the laboratory of origin ”.
According to Ana Helena Germoglio, infectious diseases specialist at Águas Claras Hospital, this phase is one of the most anticipated in vaccination. “It is very likely that the elderly population will develop severe symptoms if they contract COVID-19. For this reason, the vaccine was something that was expected of them and all the elderly had to adhere, ”he says. Despite the excitement, the specialist assures that there is no reason to despair and be alert: if by chance the position is too full and you cannot safely wait, that is, with social distance, it is better to come back later. In addition, it highlights the need for friends and family to help the elderly at this time. “People need to help this audience, get them to the right posts, check the date of the second dose and what vaccine was given. Besides avoiding blows ”, he adds.
According to SES, the units in which the vaccines will be applied initially have a service flow designed to avoid crowds. The folder guaranteed that there will also be a space of 1.5 meters between users, organized by the servers of the health unit. Despite the guarantee, Hemerson Luz, infectologist at the Hospital das Forças Armadas (HFA), says that it is necessary to think about better logistics to vaccinate this public. “It is a public that needs to be vaccinated, since it is part of the risk group for covid-19. It is necessary to think of a model that avoids the exposure of the elderly, that has technical support and ensures that security protocols are respected ”, he considers.
Sem drive-thru
At this time, SES will not adopt the drive-thru system or pre-schedule for the application of vaccines against COVID-19. According to the assistant secretary for Healthcare, Alexandre García, the lack of support and structure of the drive-thru format was the main reason why this modality was discarded in Mexico City. “As we are going to deal with a very old audience, we need close medical support, in case someone is sick or needs something. In the Basic Health Units (UBS) we have this support ”, he says.
In addition, Garcia ensures that there is no need to rush. “There will be a vaccine for everyone and there will be no deadline. That is, if an elderly person cannot go to a clinic on the first day or during the first week, there is no problem, they can go later and get vaccinated. The important thing is to get vaccinated, wear a mask and obey social distance ”, he adds. Currently, the DF has about 78,930 doses of immunizers against covid-19 and expects to receive, between Tuesday and Wednesday, more doses from the Ministry of Health. Until 7pm on Friday, 44,315 people were vaccinated.
Strip-Doubts
I am over 80 years old. What do I need to get vaccinated?
• No programming required. The elderly must go to one of the Basic Health Units (UBS) listed with only a document with a photo in which, preferably, the user’s CPF can be verified.
Until what day can I get vaccinated?
• There is no deadline. From 1:00 p.m. on Monday (1/2), at any time during the operating hours of the stations, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, it will be possible to get vaccinated.
What happens if I cannot go to a vaccination station?
• The elderly bedridden and registered in the SES Home Care Center (NRAD) will be visited by the health teams that already accompany them. If a person over 80 years of age who is not registered in this system wants to be vaccinated, a person in charge must go to the nearest vaccination point and inform the employees that there is an elderly person in the home who cannot travel to the service center. The teams will record the contact person in charge and, only in this case, will schedule the vaccination at home.
When to take the second dose?
• After the vaccination, the elderly person will receive a card with the brand of the vaccine they took and the date they must return to the clinic to receive the second dose.
Do I have to arrive before 1 pm at the vaccination site on Monday?
• No. Vaccines will be available from now on and for the next few days. That is, it is not necessary to be on site hours before the process begins.
And the elderly under 80?
• Wait. The expectation of SES is that, in the coming days, the DF will receive more doses and thus be able to expand the vaccination points and public.
