Patients are transferred after the collapse of the roof of the Niterói hospital

Part of the roof at the entrance to the trauma room of the Azevedo Lima State Hospital (Sanar) collapsed during the rains on Friday night (25). Due to the damage, the unit located in Fonseca, in the North Zone of Niterói, decided to transfer six patients to other units.

Despite the scare, there were no reports of injuries. In a note, the State Health Department (SES) reported that the transfers were made “as a security measure due to the heavy rains that occur in the region.

Furthermore, to avoid discomfort to patients, ambulances from the Mobile Emergency Service (Samu) directed emergency care to the Alberto Torres State Hospital (Calor), located in the Colubandê neighborhood, in São Gonçalo.

The hospital management reiterated, however, that patients who enter the unit by their own means continue to be treated. Maintenance crews are already cleaning the site and the secretariat also announced that it is taking all necessary steps to fix the problem.

According to the Niterói Civil Defense, the municipality entered the alert stage at 7:20 pm. In one hour, the city exceeded 70 mm accumulated, which is more than 50% of the forecast for the whole month.
