The city of Rio de Janeiro will interrupt its vaccination campaign against covid-19 due to lack of immunizers. The information was confirmed at dawn on Monday 15 by Mayor Eduardo Paes (DEM), who on Saturday (13) even said that he “expected” to receive a new batch in 48 hours.

“I received the news that no new doses have arrived. We will have to interrupt our campaign tomorrow (Tuesday). Today we vaccinate at 84 years old and tomorrow at 83. We are ready and we have already vaccinated 244,852 people. We just need the vaccine to arrive. A new wave should arrive from Butantan next week, ”the mayor posted on his Twitter account.

Last week, the Municipal Health Secretariat even warned that it had doses in stock to guarantee vaccination only until Saturday, but the deadline was rectified by Secretary Daniel Soranz.

In addition to Rio, other cities in the metropolitan region and the lowlands of Rio de Janeiro have also announced that they have enough doses to continue vaccination for a few more days.

An alternative that is being studied is to use the immunizer reserved for the second dose of those who have already been vaccinated, but it will depend on this to ensure that a new batch is delivered by the first week of March.
