The co-founder of Nubank, Cristina Junqueira, published a video on her social networks this Tuesday (20) in which she apologizes for saying, during the Roda Viva program of TV Cultura, that hiring professionals is difficult and that the company does not do it. can “level from below”.
“Yesterday I was in Roda Viva […] There was a bit of what I said there that sadly didn’t resonate as well. And I wanted to say that talking about racial diversity, of people, is not easy, ”said Junqueira.
“I wanted to apologize, [porque] I don’t think I expressed myself in the best way. It is very important that we have clear communication. I would like to thank all the comments that are coming in, the repercussions that this is having because everyone has something to learn, ”he said.
On Monday (19), when he was interviewed by the Roda Viva program, the Nubank co-founder said that the company has insufficient racial representation, but that it has been trying to get around the situation for some time. When asked if the requirements of the company at the time of hiring would not be holding back this greater representativeness, the fintech co-founder said that the company invests in training so as not to lower the level.
“We can’t even level it. That’s why we want to invest in training. We created a free program, called diversified, that we are going to teach data science to people who want to get into it, and we are going to train these people,” he said.
“It’s no use putting someone inside [da empresa] that later you will not be able to work with the teams that we have, develop, advance in your career, afterwards it will not be well evaluated. So we are not solving one problem, we are creating another. “
Junqueira’s speech echoed on social networks, where representatives of black movements and businessmen commented on the businesswoman’s statement.
“When it is not recognized that there is a historical debt with minority groups, the ‘justification’ is always the same: ‘they are not enough’, ‘they are not prepared’, ‘leveling'”, said Maitê Lourenço, founder and president of Startups by BlackRocks.
“The excuse that there is no way to satisfy the demands of black candidates is at least reductionist due to the inefficiency of the search process for these professionals,” said Nina Silva, president of the Black Money movement.
