The governor informed that he will be presenting a protocol for the resumption, but recalled that the decision to reopen corresponds to the mayors
The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (NOVO), evaluated that the return to face-to-face classes in the state public school system should occur by the end of this year, but it may occur in a staggered manner and said that there is still no date set. The information was given in an interview with CBN radio, this Tuesday morning (22). Schools have been closed since March due to the new coronavirus pandemic, but online classes are still being held.
When asked if the return to the classroom would be this year, the governor replied: “Certainly. It is still September.” In Zema’s opinion, this is feasible in view of the Covid-19 figures in Minas Gerais. “I am of the opinion, yes, that we are already in a position to return because the number of cases, the number of deaths has fallen consistently, and today we have a good safety cushion in the hospital network. We can no longer continue to harm students, parents. We are going to make an effort so that this (the return to school) happens, but safely ”, argued the politician, when he said that the State Health and Education departments are working towards the construction of a protocol.
He explained that the details will be announced at a press conference later this week, but that the return to classes “will not be like before”, referring to hygiene and detachment processes that will undoubtedly be adopted.
The governor insisted, still, that it is municipal competence to authorize or not the reopening of schools, according to the STF. “The State is going to be guiding, it is going to offer a protocol, but it is up to each mayor to make the decision. Most have followed the State, which is very good, “he quoted.

Zema also recalled that the cities that joined Minas Consciente (75% of the municipalities of Minas Gerais) are in different stages of reopening, and that this may be reflected in the resumption of face-to-face classes. “It may be that in some cities that are on the red wave, classes are still suspended,” she said.
