The Government of Pernambuco has tightened the restrictive measures in the state and, as of this Saturday the 27th, there will be a curfew. It is prohibited to operate any non-essential activity between 10 pm and 5 am. The measure will remain in effect until March 10. The goal is to contain the new advance of coronavirus cases, which puts pressure on the state health system. The UCI occupancy rate in Pernambuco is currently above 90%.

The most restrictive measures valid for the entire state were announced by Governor Paulo Câmara, this Friday, after the state government decreed, last Wednesday, strict measures in the Regional Health Directorates based in Caruaru, Limoeiro and Ouricuri. In 63 municipalities of Agreste and Sertão, economic and social activities are prohibited between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Monday to Friday. On weekends, the rigor is even greater and the restrictions are valid from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

According to the governor, there will be an inspection to avoid non-compliance with the measures. “Police and law enforcement will be on the streets to observe compliance with this new decree. This weekend we will monitor the data minute by minute and, if rates continue to deteriorate, new restrictive measures could be announced as soon as next . week, “said Paulo Câmara.

Vaccines and ICU

In his speech, Governor Paulo Câmara also announced that logistics teams will be expanded with the aim of further reducing the delivery time of vaccines once they arrive in Recife. In addition, he informed that this weekend another 30 ICU beds will come into operation at the Eduardo Campos da Pessoa Idosa Hospital in Recife.

Pernambuco has almost two thousand beds dedicated to patients infected by the coronavirus, according to Paulo Câmara, 998 of which are in the ICU in 16 municipalities. “This is another turning point in our fight against Covid. It has become clear that everyone must do their part, wear a mask, hand hygiene and avoid crowds,” the governor concluded.
