Catarina Vitória da Silva was born with little more than seven months of gestation. Daiana had discovered Covid-19 on December 1 and was admitted to hospital the next day, as her health rapidly deteriorated.
According to the victim’s sister-in-law, Tatiane da Silva Lima, the family expected Daiana to improve after delivery, but her lung did not respond to medical procedures. The victim had no comorbidity.
“Daiana was very brave, she couldn’t save her own life, but she saved Catarina’s life. He fought a lot and Catarina was the little seed that stayed, ”he said.
The baby remains hospitalized in the neonatal ICU, but does not use drugs or devices. The family is waiting for him to gain weight to go home, which should happen in two weeks.

The burial took place this Sunday (27), in Piraquara, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, and had several tributes from friends and family.
Catarina is Daiana’s first daughter with her husband Helton da Silva. The victim also left a daughter under 11 years old from another relationship.
“This virus kills, this virus destroys families. Take care! If you are pregnant do not go out, you do not need to go to the fair or the shopping center. Reserve your life and that of those you love,” said the sister-in-law.
At the time of delivery, the victim’s husband told the RPC who, at times, stopped believing in the danger of Covid-19 and asked people to take the disease seriously.
Tatiane is Helton’s sister, Daiana’s husband, and Catarina’s godmother. He said he would do anything to help raise the girl alongside her brother.

The doctors decided to have an emergency delivery because there was no improvement in Daiana’s health.
The team even tried to transfer to another hospital, since the institution does not have a neonatal ICU, but it was not possible. From there, several professionals from Hospital Santa Cruz were mobilized for delivery.
According to the superintendent of Hospital Vita, Osni Silvestre, the cesarean section was necessary because the pregnancy compresses part of the lung, making the pregnant woman’s body have to work harder to recover from an illness.
After the birth, Catarina was transferred to the neonatal ICU of Hospital Santa Cruz.
