The modern pharmaceutical company announced that its experimental COVID-19 vaccine was 94.5% effective in the latest company tests. In the universe of volunteers, 95 people had covid-19 and developed symptoms. Of these, 90 took placebo and only 5 the Moderna vaccine.
The findings indicate that it is effective in preventing severe cases. The vaccine showed signs of being safe, although researchers and regulators should wait for more comprehensive safety data from the study, scheduled for late November.
Moderna plans to ask US health authorities for the vaccine to be released in early December, making the Cambridge, Massachusetts vaccine one of the first to be distributed in the country.

Earlier this month, Pfizer and BioNTech announced that their vaccine, in a phase 3 study, was more than 90% effective against COVID-19. The companies plan to apply for clearance from the US drug regulatory agency (FDA) later this month.
The Russian vaccine Sputinik V, from Gamaleia, was announced by President Putin with 92% effectiveness, however, without presenting the studies.
The stock market reaction was immediate to the announcement of the vaccine. Stocks from tourism-related companies had a strong positive response this morning, repeating the move following the announcement of the Pfizer vaccine results.
In Europe, Lufthansa rises 5% this morning; IAG, owner of British Airways, advances 7%; Air France-KLM, 7.6%; and EasyJet, 5%. Carnival, a cruise company, was up 7.7% and Marriott hotels, 5.21%.
