Tarcísio is the fourteenth minister of the federal government infected by the virus.

“Minister Tarcísio just gave COVID. I spoke with him a moment ago … I mean, they informed me, but I could not speak with him. He is already taking hydroxychloroquine,” Bolsonaro told a group of supporters, upon arriving at the Palace of Justice. Sunrise.

The president’s statements were posted on a Bolsonar website.

When mentioning that Tarcísio is being treated with hydroxychloroquine, the president once again defended a drug without proven efficacy for covid-19 and associated with side effects.

Since the start of the pandemic, Bolsonaro has defended the substance, despite warnings from experts that there is no data to prove its effectiveness.

The Infrastructure Ministry confirmed the information provided by Bolsonaro.

“Minister Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas tested positive for Sars-CoV2, information confirmed on Friday night. The minister is asymptomatic and must continue with his teleworking duties,” said the minister.

Several members of Bolsonaro’s team were contaminated by covid-19.

They are on the list Augusto Heleno (Institutional Security); Bento Albuquerque (Mines and Energy); Onyx Lorenzoni (citizenship); Milton Ribeiro (Education); Marcos Pontes (Science and Technology); Wagner Rosário (Comptroller General of the Union); Braga Neto (Civil House); Jorge Oliveira (General Secretariat); Marcelo Álvaro Antônio (Tourism); Luiz Eduardo Ramos (Secretary of Government); Fábio Faria (Communications); Eduardo Pazuello (Health) and André Mendonça (Justice).

Bolsonaro himself also contracted covid-19 in July and recovered without showing any major symptoms.

Since the beginning of the global coronavirus crisis, Bolsonaro has made statements in which he seeks to minimize the impacts of the pandemic and, at the same time, treat as exaggerated some measures taken abroad and by the country’s state governors.
