A 10-year-old boy shot and killed his 9-year-old cousin while playing in Betim (MG). According to the Civil Police, the boy’s 29-year-old aunt was charged with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and omission of caution in the custody of the weapon. The information is from the newspaper O Tempo.

According to investigations, the boys were spending a few days at their aunt’s house when on November 18 they found the weapons (a 38 caliber revolver and a 40 pistol) inside the sofa while the woman was sleeping. Armaments were loaded and their numbers scraped.

According to the police, the children played with the weapons and placed them back on the sofa. The next day, the woman went to a medical consultation and left the children in the care of a 16-year-old teenager.

The children took up their guns again while the teenager showered, at which point the older one ended up shooting his cousin. The boy was hit on the back. After the accident, the boy left his weapons on the sofa and called the teenager. The rescue was called, but the victim could not resist the injuries.

Aunt got away

Still, according to police, after learning of the incident, the children’s aunt ran away and was only summoned by police about 30 days after the crime. In testimony, the woman said the weapons belonged to her ex-partner, who was killed in April this year. He also reported that he did not know that the weapons were in the house.

However, investigations show that the woman knew the location of the weapons. “The sofa was in the center of the house, there in the living room, and these weapons were in front of the sofa, at the bottom. It was only a matter of lifting a cloth, that the children had access to weapons, ”he details.

Chief Otávio de Carvalho, of the Betim Homicide Police, also reported that since he was less than 12 years old, the child will not be held accountable for the incident. The children’s aunt was not arrested.
