Suspect of stabbing to kill ex-wife tells police he ‘just wanted to scare’ victim
A man tried to kill his ex-wife on Saturday morning (31st) at a bus stop in Betim, in the Belo Horizonte metropolitan region, and was arrested by the police on Sunday (1st). The information is from Record TV Minas.
The suspect, Luan dos Santos Barbosa, 33, allegedly inflicted six knife blows on the victim, Dione Aparecida Rodrigues, 30, when she tried to get on a bus.
She was thrown to the ground and ended up being rescued by passengers, who witnessed the crime. Luan fled the scene and Dione was taken by the bus driver to a support point of the concessionaire that manages the Fernão Dias Highway, to receive first aid.
The blows reached the neck, hands and legs of the victim, who was referred to the Betim Regional Hospital and remains hospitalized after the operation. She is not at risk of death.
Luan was arrested on Sunday while trying to return home. He ended up surrounded by popular people and the police, who were already waiting for him to perhaps return home, made the arrest. He was transferred to the Betim police station and fined in flagrante delicto for attempted murder.
According to the victim’s sister, the couple has a 12-year-old son and has been together since adolescence, but Dione tried to end the relationship last Friday and Luan did not accept. The suspicion is that the man is a drug user.
It is not the first time the man has tried to kill her, according to her sister. On another occasion, he also attacked her with a knife, but Dione managed to escape.
