Governor Eduardo Leite meets, this Thursday afternoon, with the Federation of Associations of Municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul (Famurs) to decide the future of the shared management of Controlled Distancing. Leite’s proposal is that co-management be suspended for a period of one week, from Saturday to Sunday, and reevaluated if an extension is necessary. “It may be time to centralize management. I want to listen to the mayors, but I understand that we need a single command. It is not that the governor wants to pass over the mayors, but the situation we have today impacts all gauchos” . even in regions that do not have a black flag, ”he said.
At the opening of the meeting, the governor insisted again on the formation of a “unit” to avoid any disorientation in the protocols to be followed by the people of Rio Grande do Sul. As an example, he cited the federal government in the face of the pandemic. “Although it does not leave room for disorientation, it needs more unity. We cannot repeat here the lack of national coordination in RS. We need to unite in the same direction and not an order from the governor that can be challenged,” he added. he said.
Last week, Piratini already met with Famurs and decided to maintain co-management, due to pressure from municipal managers to open the flexibility of the black and red flag. Following the decision, Leite held several public demonstrations asking mayors for caution and responsibility in the face of a critical situation that puts the state health network on the brink of collapse, with more than 90% of ICU beds occupied.
