Learn a little about the stories of the 12 children whose lives were disrupted by violence:

Anna Carolina de Souza Neves, 8, died on January 10 after being shot in the head when she was sitting on the sofa in her house in the Parque Esperança neighborhood, in Belford, Roxo, in Baixada Fluminense.

The family informed the police that shots were heard shortly before the girl was hit. According to the prime minister, there was no operation in the region where Anna Carolina was shot.

The girl’s father even took his daughter to a police vehicle to be rescued. They took her to the Saracuruna Hospital, but she could not resist the injuries.

João Vitor Moreira, 14, died on February 2 after being shot in the head in Vila Kosmos, in the North Zone of Rio. He was returning from his 2-year-old cousin’s birthday party.

Luiz Antônio, 14 years old

Luiz Antônio de Souza Ferreira da Silva, 14, died on February 7 in São João de Meriti. She was in the process of adoption and received a blow to the leg when she left a psychologist appointment with the adoptive mother, according to the family.

Luiz Antônio was transferred in very serious condition to Hospital da Posse, in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense, where he underwent surgery, but he did not resist his injuries.

João Pedro Mattos Pinto, 14, was assassinated during a joint operation of the Civil and Federal Police in the Complexo do Salgueiro, in São Gonçalo, on May 18. According to reports from relatives, the police broke into the house.

One of those present would have shouted that there were only children in the residence, lying on the ground with their hands up. Shot, the teenager was taken from the house by helicopter. Relatives say that was transported on the aircraft without anyone being able to accompany him, even without knowing where it would go.

The family was left without news of the boy until the morning of the following day, when they were informed of the death of the teenager.

Douglas Enzo Maia dos Santos Marinho, 4, was murdered at his own birthday party, in Piabetá, in Baixada Fluminense. He was shot in the chest in June.

According to the family, the boy was very happy with the celebration, which was themed by his favorite hero, the Hulk.

He even heard the guests sing congratulations, but shortly after, the boy was killed with a gun in front of everyone, including the children.

The author of the shooting, who entered the celebration with other guests, was arrested on the spot.

Kauã Vítor da Silva, 11, was shot in the head on June 25 at Complexo da Maré. According to the Military Police, the boy’s family said he was playing in the doorway when another minor accidentally fired a gun.

Rayane Lopes, 10, died on June 28 in a massacre in the Anchieta neighborhood, in the North Zone.

In addition to the girl, four more men died at the June party that took place at one of the entrances to the Dorada community. Witnesses said that four armed men got out of a black car and fired at party goers.

The 7-year-old boy Ítalo Augusto died after being shot at the door of his house, in the Éden neighborhood, in São João de Meriti, in Baixada Fluminense. The crime took place on June 30.

Witnesses say he was shot in the head. He was rescued by relatives and neighbors. According to the State Department of Health, he has already arrived dead in the UPA neighborhood.

Maria Alice Neves, 4, died on July 2, after being shot during a birthday party in Três Rios, in the south of the state of Rio. She was admitted to the Adão Pereira Nunes State Hospital, which is located in Duke of Caxias.

According to witnesses, two men were shooting from a motorcycle. In addition to Alice, seven other people were also affected, including the birthday boy, who turned 17. A 20-year-old man died instantly.

Leônidas Augusto, 12 years old

Leônidas Augusto, 12, died after being shot in the head on Avenida Brasil, near Bonsucesso, on October 9. He had gone with his grandmother to a supermarket located at one of the entrances to the Nova Holanda favela, in Complexo do Alemão.

He was even taken to the Bonsucesso Federal Hospital, but could not resist his injuries.

Emilly Victoria, 4 and Rebecca Beatriz, 7

The cousins ​​Emilly Victoria, 4 years old, and Rebeca Beatriz Rodrigues dos Santos, 7 years old, died while playing on their doorstep, in the Santo Antônio community, in Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense. They were killed on the night of December 4.

A single shot hit Emilly in the head and Rebecca in the abdomen. The girls were preparing for the birthday of the youngest, who would turn 5 on December 23.

It would be a small celebration due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but it was the first party in the life of Emilly, who was excited for the celebration. All the family members raised money to host a party for the girl with the theme of her favorite princess, Moana.
