“Currently, the workers who manage to be removed are using their rights as premium vacations, legal holidays, compensatory breaks or else they will have to pay the following days. This is not correct, since they have the right to be removed, ”explains the executive director of the Single Union of Health Workers of the State of Minas Gerais (Sindsaúde-MG), Neuza Freitas.
The union even filed a lawsuit against the Minas Gerais State Hospital Foundation (Fhemig), requesting these removals, but lost in the first instance. “We are appealing,” says Neuza.
The shortage and poor quality of personal protective equipment (PPE) also worries workers. “It’s not just the doctors and the nurses that are exposed. There are the cleaning staff, the windows, the ambulatory. The least we need is PPE for our protection and we don’t know if we will have access until the end of this pandemic,” he says. However, the emergency voucher was approved only for doctors and we understand that everyone who works in health has the same right, “emphasizes Neuza.
Sindisaúde is also fighting for access to statistics on cases and deaths among state health workers. “We ask, but Fhemig does not supply. It is important to know these numbers, “says Neuza.
The protest on Monday (27), at the door of Júlia Kubitschek, is just one of several planned. “We are holding assemblies in the units, separately, because the time is not for crowds,” says the director of Sindsaúde.
Maintenance of psychiatric care in Galba Velloso will also be discussed. The union opposes the transformation of this unit into a reference for hospitalizations of non-serious patients, because it defends the complete maintenance of psychiatric care.
