MANAUS – Guard Judge Leoney Fligliuolo Harraquian ordered the closure of all non-essential services in Amazonas for a period of 15 days. The decision meets the request of the MP-AM (Amazonas Prosecutor’s Office) and considers the increase in cases and deaths from Covid-19 in the state. The daily fine is R $ 50 thousand in case of non-compliance.

In the decision record, Fligliuolo states that only after full control of the cases can there be true relaxation. Amazonas was among the states considered stable in the advancement of the disease and is now experiencing an increase in the number of infected people. “It is common knowledge that the number of cases of Covid-19 infection has been increasing in recent months, after a period in which the state of Amazonas was among the only states with the number of stable cases,” He says.

The judge attributes the increase in cases to flexibility and elections. “For there to be a clear absurdity of cases in these last two months, it is derived from the flexibility that was made for the November elections and for the Christmas season, thus generating overcrowding in Public and Private Hospitals, an overcrowding that is getting worse been that in mid-March / April 2020, ”he says.

According to Fligliuolo, if the State had taken more effective measures to guarantee isolation, the scenario would be different. “Now, the number of people who died waiting for available beds is high and, if the State of Amazonas had tried to take more effective measures of social distance, the number of available beds would be greater and the number of people who died waiting for them would be less” , He says.

For services considered essential, Fligliuolo determines that the Government of Amazonas indicates for each category the measures to avoid crowds in the service. It is expected that the state government will comment in the next 15 days, through social networks and other communication channels, to explain to the population the need for the actions taken.

Fligliuolo determines that after this period, the State does not adopt measures to expand social life contrary to the risk assessment carried out by the FVS (Amazonas Foundation for Health Surveillance).

To ensure compliance with the decision, the judge determines the use of police force to preserve public order.
