João Teixeira de Faria, 79, known as João de Deus, was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Sírio Libanês Hospital, in the Federal District, this Saturday afternoon (24). He was ill on Friday, in Anápolis (GO), and after being treated at the hospital in the city of Goiás, he was transferred to Brasilia. Its clinical picture is considered high risk.
João de Deus was convicted of sexually abusing women during spiritual dates. Still on Friday, he underwent a series of tests in the Federal District. With the results of the tests, the hospital’s medical team decided to transfer him to the ICU.

João de Deus arrived at Mexico City conscious, feeling fatigue and pain in the chest area. The symptoms are caused by a circulatory problem. In the ICU, the patient receives medication that can only be administered in hospitals. Although the condition is high risk, his condition is stable.

Since the beginning of the hospitalization, João de Deus is conscious, speaks normally and does not need to be intubated. There is no provision for surgery or discharge.
João de Deus was detained between December 2018 and March 2020, in the Aparecida de Goiânia Penitentiary Complex, in the Metropolitan Region of the capital. However, he was released in March this year to serve his sentence at home due to the high risk of contagion from Covid-19 in prison.
There is no record of judicial authorization in the Court of Justice of the State of Goiás (TJ-GO) that allows João de Deus to leave the perimeter to which he is imprisoned. João de Deus was sentenced to more than 60 years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm and sexual crimes committed against women, while attending the Dom Inácio de Loyola House, in Abadiânia.
As of January this year, there were three convictions for sexual crimes committed against nine women:
- 1st – for illegal possession of a firearm, sentence of 4 years in a semi-open regime, November 2019;
- 2nd – for sexual crimes committed against four women, sentenced to 19 years in a closed regime, in December 2019;
- 3rd – for sexual crimes committed against five women, sentenced to 40 years in a closed regime, January 2020.
