The Electoral Justice clarifies that the information about the hours from 7 am to 10 am is not exclusive for the elderly. This time range will only be preferred for voters over 60.

The guideline was established by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in the Health Security Plan for the 2020 Municipal Elections and incorporated into the electoral regulations through resolution 23,631.

Article 254 of resolution 23.631, which deals with the general acts of the electoral process for the 2020 elections, says: “In the period between 7 am (seven hours) and 10 am (ten hours), will have preference vote for voters aged 60 (sixty) years or more, regardless of the time of their arrival at the polling station, with preference for voters over 80 (eighty) years of age who are protected within this group ”.

Then the second paragraph of the same document says: “During the period provided, voters under the age of 60 (sixty) will not be barred from voting, but they must wait in a separate line until all voters aged 60 (sixty) or older, already present or arriving at the section, have voted. ”

Therefore, no voter will be prevented from voting between 7 am and 10 am, and must only respect the priority established by the Superior Electoral Tribunal. Voters over 60 also need not be restricted to this time slot. They can vote anytime between 7 am and 5 pm.

After 10 a.m., the elderly continue to have preference in the polling station queues, but they are no longer at the head of the following groups, which are also considered preferential by electoral legislation: candidates, electoral judges, their assistants, the Electoral Justice servers. , electoral promoters, military police officers on duty, the sick, voters with disabilities or reduced mobility, obese, pregnant, lactating, accompanied by a child and people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as colleagues of the latter.
