Athlete and healthy, this is how her niece remembers Patrocínio Naveira, the third fatal victim of coronavirus in Campo Grande. The 74-year-old dentist was included in the SES bulletin (Secretary of State Health) as hypertensive, diabetic and one of the deaths caused by the virus this Sunday (03). Hellen Calvino claims that the uncle did not suffer from any of these diseases and regrets the way in which the organ reported death.

Still shocked by the death of her uncle and the disclosure in official documents, the fourth-year medical student remembers what the dentist was like. “They pose as if the disease killed only elderly and basic illnesses, but my uncle was 74 years old and the health of a 50-year-old person swam, always dived, had no disease.”

Regarding the cancer Patrocínio faced, Hellen clearly remembers that the nodule removal surgery was short and quick. “The cancer I had a year ago did not need radiotherapy or chemotherapy, it was a nodule removed by surgery. So I had no weakness, “he says, his voice trembling.

Death from coronavirus

Hellen, as a relative of one of the victims of the coronavirus, believes that there is a misconception about who can become a fatal victim of the disease. “What I felt at the time is that they used this, his age, cancer, that he had a single lump to justify his death. Speaking when reading that he was hypertensive and diabetic, was an insult to the people who knew him, ”he says indignantly.

The dentist’s niece says she will receive the official medical report on Monday (04), but adds that the information only includes the death caused by the coronavirus. With a little trouble speaking and long pauses, she remembers her uncle’s last days.

“We spent 38 days trying to improve it, it is not fair that people use their case to classify it as someone who has diseases, they did not. My uncle died of respiratory diseases, of coronavirus, which destroyed 75% of his lungs. ” Between crying and small controlled sobs, Hellen recalls that Patrocínio worked normally the day before going to the hospital. “My uncle only realized it and sought help because he could not dive that day,” the sentence ends before falling into emotion.

After a pause, the niece reveals that, also the day before admission, the dentist underwent extensive examinations to verify health. With the tests in hand, the niece says that no other disease was detected in him, other than the coronavirus. “He is not a patient with complications, he died of lung destruction, caused by Covid-19.”

The pain of a family

From an athlete and swimmer on March 23, to a hospital gurney and tubes to help breathe just a day later, this was the last sponsorship trail. “This is very common for us, my aunt has been suffering for 38 days and was also hospitalized for 15 days,” recalls the niece of the family’s pain.

The dentist’s wife is also one of the victims of the coronavirus in Mato Grosso do Sul, according to her niece, her aunt also needed to be hospitalized due to the virus. “ANDshe was hospitalized for twelve days and in those days she had bacterial pneumonia, she couldn’t eat, a problem in her esophagus and everything you can imagine, caused by the coronavirus ”, she describes.

Still in sponsorship, Hellen reports that he was a good person alive, that he goes out to work every day, but that never a day went by without playing some kind of sport. “He always swam, my aunt even told him not to go several times and he never stopped doing it. He motivated almost all his friends to go swimming to improve his health too, ”she says, in a moment of joy when she remembered her deceased uncle.

For the family, in addition to happy memories, what remains is the pain of loss. “When he died it was very difficult, because his condition was improving, “recalls the medical student.

“People were not aware”

When she looks down the streets, Hellen says the feeling is “pity”. “I’m sorry, because the person will only come back to themselves when they feel what it’s like to be inside, to experience all of this, to see a person you know experiencing breathing difficulties and die because they could no longer breathe.”

Citing the situation and the number of deaths recorded in Manaus and São Paulo, the niece of one of the victims of the coronavirus believes that the statistics are no longer effective. “We speak alone and we show the statistics, we are seeing, but people are not aware of what is happening in our country.”

Regarding the difficulty of practicing social isolation, the only way to deal with the coronavirus so far, Hellen comments that it is necessary to think about the evils you avoid. “It is difficult to be alone, I know, because I was isolated alone in an apartment for more than 15 days. I had contact with two infected people, my uncles, and I preferred to leave my family to protect them. ”

Another break for emotions and Hellen mentions her six-year-old daughter and husband, who were absent for two weeks. “It was not easy for me, but every time I looked out the window I thought: it is better for me to be alone inside than to risk being asymptomatic and contaminating someone, because that person may not have a strength in the immune system.”
